An exceptional French 19th-century patinated bronze statue signed Paul Dubois (1825-1905) and Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892).
Barbedienne, a French metalworker and manufacturer well known as a bronze founder and Dubois, a French sculptor and painter have both signed this piece.
The statue entitled « Le Courage Militaire », is raised by a square base with a rounded front. Above is the handsome soldier seated on a wonderfully executed tree trunk where the signature is displayed while leaning on his sword at his side. The soldier is wearing boots and a richly chased flowing garment under his impressive armor and a striking helmet with a dragon atop. Also, he wears a powerful lion skin across his back with the paws tied at his torso.
